On July 31, 2014 a workshop on the issues of providing assistance to the persons arriving from Ukraine took place. The meeting was organized by the UNHCR Representation in the Republic of Belarus with the support of the Belarusian Red Cross Society in order to coordinate activities with partner organizations, and primarily, with governmental structures of Belarus. Representatives of the International Organization for Migration, Department on Citizenship and Migration of the MIA of Belarus, of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the Refugee Counseling Service and INA “Evolutio” took part in the event.
Each participant of the meeting told about the work being implemented to provide assistance to citizens of Ukraine arriving in the Republic of Belarus. Moreover, the questions of what should be done to approach more effective interstructural cooperation were discussed. Problematic sides and obstacles which organizations face in their work on providing assistance to citizens of Ukraine were distinguished. Following the event, the plan of activities on coordination of efforts undertaken by international organizations and governmental structures with the aim to provide more effective assistance to Ukrainians who have already reached Belarus was worked out.
