The results of the contest of scientific works of students, candidates for a master's degree, post-graduate students «Refugee Protection and Promotion of Tolerance in Multicultural Society» were summed up, which was held by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and International Non–governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes «Evolutio» in the framework of the joint EU — UNHCR project «Strengthening the Protection Capacity in the Republic of Belarus — phase II».
The contest of scientific works was held from September to December 2009. The contest objective was to encourage research of students, candidates for a master's degree, post-graduate students on topics related to refugee issues and other categories of foreign citizens and stateless persons, who need protection, and also on topics related to tolerance issues. The contest is opened for full-time students, candidates for a master's degree and post-graduate students of full-time course of study of higher educational and scientific institutions of the Republic of Belarus. 49 works of students, candidates for a master's degree, post-graduate students from 19 universities of the Republic of Belarus participated in the contest. The comission defined five works-winners whose authors will be awarded with cash prizes and gifts. Works were measured by the following criterion: research character of the work (depth of research of the topic, independence of views, argumentativeness of the conclusions, existence of proposals and problem-solving recommendations); presentation of material (literacy, clearness and logical order of material presentation, unambiguousness which exclude double-meaning sense, validity of personal supposi-tions and recommendations of the author).

- Eugeny Chervinsky (cadet of the Investigation and Expertise Department of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus) — work “Strengthening Tolerance in Multicultural Society in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Russian and Zhaymotskaga on the Example of the Jewish Diaspora”;
- Tatiana Shibko (student of the Faculty of International Relations of Belarusian State University) — work “Refugee Protection and Promotion of Tolerance in Multicultural Society”;
- Ekaterina Yadchenko (post-graduate student of the Department of the English Language and Verbal Communication of Belarusian State University) — work “Discourse-portraits of Refugees”.
