The results of the scholarship contest for students and postgraduste students devoted to topics related to refugee issues – 2008 conducted in March—May 2008 by UNHCR and International Non-Governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes "Evolutio" were determined.

14 works of students and postgraduate students from 8 universities were sent thier works. The commission made the following decision.

To announce the following students as the winners and reward them with the monthly money awards of 200.000 Belarusian rubles for the period from September till December 2008:

  • Dmitry Makarevich, 4th year student of the Law Faculty of the Belarusian State Economic University ("Refugees and Other Categories of Migrants: similarities and differences");
  • Yuliya Parkhomova, 3rd year student of State Institute of Management and Social Technologies of the Belarusian State University ("Sources of International Migration Law")

To announce the following students as the winners and reward them with the monthly money awards of 150.000 Belarusian rubles for the period from September till December 2008:

  • Veronika Burachevskaya, 1st year student of the Faculty of International Relations of the Belarusian State University ("Refugees and Tolerance in the Multinational Society");
  • Evgeny Chervisky, 2nd year cadet of Investigatory-Expert Faculty of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus ("The formation of the refugee institute on the territory of the Great Duchy of Lithuania (from Vitavt's princedom until the Lublin Union). Legal status, social structure, national minorities' culture in multinational tolerant society").

To announce the following students as the winners and reward them with the encouraging monthly money awards of 100.000 Belarusian rubles for the period from September till December 2008:

  • Stanislav Puchkov, 2nd year student of the Law Faculty of the Vitebsk State University named P. M. Masherov ("Immigratin legislation in European countries: current situation and perspectives");
  • Dmitry Tolochko, 1st year student of the Faculty of Economy and Management of the Grodno State University named Y. Kupala ("Asylum and Migration Nexus").

The awarding ceremony of the winners will take place on the 20t June at 10:00 in the National press-center of the Republic of Belarus (ul. Oktyabrskaya, 5).


The contest was carried out in the framework of the joint EC AENEAS — UNHCR Project "Strengthening the Protection Capacity in the Republic of Belarus".
