On January 28, 2009 there will be held a conference "The role of Belarusian mass media in the formation of tolerance in the society". The event is jointly organized by the UNHCR Office in the Republic of Belarus, Faculty of International Relations of the Belarusian State University and International Non-governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Education Programmes "Evolutio".
The high level of common and legal culture of the population, favorable social atmosphere, absence of intensity are the characteristic features of the Belarusian society. At the same time, there still exists a row of concerns connected with increase of migration flows. In the opinion of the meeting organisers, mass media play there a crucial role.
The heads and personnel of Belarusian mass media and the UNHCR will take part in the meeting. In the framework of the conference there will be held the discussion on the tolerance issues, the awarding ceremony of the winners of the contest for journalists for the best material in mass media in 2008 of the topic "Problem of refugees: myths and reality".
