contest of works of students, candidates for a master's degree, post-graduate students
"Refugee Protection and Promotion of Tolerance in Multicultural Society"
The contest objective is to encourage research of students, candidates for a master's degree, post-graduate students on topics related to refugee issues and other categories of foreign citizens and stateless persons, who need protection, and also on topics related to tolerance issues.
The contest goals are to attract youth attention to the problems of refugees and other categories of foreign citizens and stateless persons, who need protection; information dissemination about the activity of state government bodies, non-governmental and international organizations aimed to resolve problems of refugees; developing of tolerant attitude towards refugees and other categories of foreign citizens and stateless persons.
The contest is opened for full-time students, candidates for a master's degree and post-graduate students of full-time course of study of higher educational and scientific institutions of the Republic of Belarus.
The participants shall submit the following documents to the International Non–governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes “Evolutio” in person or by post a written work on the contest topic in Russian or Belarusian (it should be signed by the author), a filled application form, a certificate from the faculty dean’s office, stating that he/she is a full-time student/candidate for a master's degree/post-graduate student of full-time course of study. The work shall not exceed 15 pages (pages size — A4, 12 pt font, Times New Roman, 2.5 cm each margin, line space sesquialteral, page numbering at the bottom of a page on centre). The title sheet shall indicate the name of the work, the surname, name and patronymic name of student/candidate for a master's degree/post-graduate student, the higher education institution, the faculty and the course.
The work must have independent nature. In the introduction relevance of the work should be settled down, objective and goals should be stated, brief review of analyzed literature should be given. In the main part it’s necessary to open the paper topic in accordance with stated objective and goals. In the conclusion implications should be given, if possible theoretic and practical recommendations of the author to resolve this problem may be given. Footnotes and literature design should conform to requirements of the design of scientific papers.
Following receive of works prior review of works will be leaded. Works which are out of line with the contest topic or include plagiarism will be excluded from the participation in the contest. Indication of participant’s name or higher educational institution title somewhere in the work, except title page, will also lead to participant disqualification.
N o t e: Plagiarism — use of the language and thoughts of another author without indication of its real author. Use of the language and thoughts of another is assumed in case of obligatory existence of reference to text of its real author. Attention should be given to presence of references to facts and figures which are given in the work.
The contest will be held from September 1, 2009 till November 30, 2009. The results of the contest will be announced not later than January 31, 2010.
Works will be measured by the following criterion: research character of the work (depth of research of the topic, independence of views, argumentativeness of the conclusions, existence of proposals and problem-solving recommendations); presentation of material (literacy, clearness and logical order of material presentation, unambiguousness which exclude double-meaning sense, validity of personal suppositions and recommendations of the author); compliance of the work with the design requirements.
The authors of the best works will be awarded. There will be three first places with reward in the amount of 600 000 (six hundred thousand) Belarusian rubles, three second places with reward in the amount of 400 000 (four hundred thousand) Belarusian rubles, three third places with reward in the amount of 200 000 (two hundred thousand) Belarusian rubles. Amount of the rewards could be changed in accordance with the decisions of the commission.
Moreover, on the recommendations of the commission the best works can be published in the Journal of International Law and International Relations.
