On 26—27 June, 2014 the seminar «Psychological Aspects of Work with Vulnerable Groups of Refugees and Asylum Seekers» was held within the framework of the «Asylum Systems Quality Initiative in Eastern Europe and the Southern Caucasus» project. Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs Department for Citizenship and Migration, UNHCR Representation in Minsk, Belarusian Red Cross Society and Public Association «Belarusian Movement of Medical Workers» were present at the event. Psychologist and trainer of the Belarusian Red Cross Society Tatsiana Levchik conducted the seminar. Special attention was paid to the main principles and approaches in work with vulnerable groups of refugees and asylum seekers as well as with minor asylum seekers, unescorted women, victims of torture.
During the seminar such questions as definition of the term «vulnerable group», psychological and social portrait of refugees, principles of work with vulnerable groups and its peculiarities, gender characteristics and other related questions were discussed. Participants of the event had a chance to analyze cases of work with vulnerable groups of refugees and asylum seekers.
Seminar was held in an interactive way: attendants were to analyze and discuss various problems connected with the topic of the seminar; also a number of exercises aiming to reveal existing stereotypes, stereotyped perception and to develop practical skills were proposed to the participants.
