Military and political leader of Rzecz Pospolita and the United States, a participant of the U.S. War of Independence, the organizer of the Uprising in Rzecz Pospolita in 1794, the national hero of Poland, the USA, Lithuania, Belarus, honorary citizen of France 

Tadeusz Kościuszko was born on February 4, 1746 (according to some reports November 30, 1745) in the village of Merechevschina in the Kingdom of Poland (now Belarus).

In October 1794 Kościuszko’s troops were defeated and wounded Kościuszko was taken as a prisoner. Afterwards the rebellion was suppressed. Tadeusz Kościuszko emigrated and died in 1817 in Switzerland. Compatriots brought hero’s ashes to homeland and he was buried in Wawel Cathedral where the bodies of the kings and those whose services are invaluable for Poland lie.
