The results of the scholarship contest for students and postgraduste students devoted to topics related to refugee issues – 2008 conducted in March—May 2008 by UNHCR and International Non-Governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes "Evolutio" were determined.
On the 12—13 June 2008 on the basis of the Academy of the Ministry of Intermal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus supported by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the Republic of Belarus (UNHCR) International contest in refugee legislature "New Horizon" wiil be conducted.
On the eve of World Refugee Day the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Education, Center for Children and Adolescents "Evrika" conducted a competition of children' works called "Supporting the flame of hope".
On the 20 June the international community commemorates World Refugee Day.
The UNHCR Office in the Republic of Belarus and the International Non-Governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes "Evolutio" prepared a series of three programmes called "About Refugees and More".
The programmes will be broadcasted by the "Radius-FM" radio station on Mondays, 2, 9 and 16 June from 16.00 until 17.00.
On the 18 June the "Radius-FM" radio station will broadcast a talk-show devoted to World Refugee Day.
Moreover, 16—20 June 2008 at 11.20 and 14.50 "Radio Roks" will broadcast informational blocks devoted to World Refugee Day.
On the 14th of May, 2008 at the plenary session the deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus in the second reading approved the draft of the Law "Granting Refugee Status, Providing Additional and Temporary Protection to Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons".

On May 7, 2008 the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, International Organization for Migration, the Belarusian Red Cross Society and the Association "Belarusian Movement of Medical Workers" signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Access to the Procedure of Asylum in the Republic of Belarus.
