INTERNATIONAL NON-GOVERNMENTAL ASSOCIATION FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, INFORMATION AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES «EVOLUTIO» (INA «EVOLUTIO»)

History and Mandate

The International Non-governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes “Evolutio” is a legal successor of the Centre for the UN Studies that was initially formed within a joint project of the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nnations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Belarusian State University in 1998. The main objective of the Centre was to promote the UN goals and ideals in the Republic of Belarus, to contribute to the research and studies of the different UN activities, including such spheres as the international security, economic, social and humanitarian issues, environment, international law, human rights, refugee protection. In 1998—2000 the Centre conducted information and educational activities in the spheres of human and refugee rights. Thus, a number of seminars and round tables, lectures, publications, creation of the UN depositary library in the Belarusian State University, social advertising on radio and TV, actions for children and adults on rise of knowledge and understanding on these problems have been organized.

In 2001 on the basis of the Centre for UN Studies the International Non-governmental Association  for UN Studies, Information and Educational Programmes was established. As well as the Centre, Association continued to carry out information and educational activities in the spheres of international law, international relations, UN and other international organizations activities, human and refugee rights. The International Non-Governmental Association for UN Studies, Information and Educational Programmes was engaged in a number of educational programs and also coordinated activity of the regional public partner-organizations.

In July, 2005 Association changed the name for International Non-governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes “Evolutio”. In March, 2006 there were made few amendments to the Charter in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Belarus. The latest amendments to the Charter were made on 14th November, 2008: humanitarian activity of the Association was added.

The International Non-governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes “Evolutio” is a voluntary association of persons, based on common interests and intended to jointly implement cultural, educational, scientific and humanitarian activities. The International Non-governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes “Evolutio” was registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus. Certificate of registration № 02018.

The INA “Evolutio” is aimed at contributing to awareness raising of the Belarusian people on international law and international relations issues and also at developing education and research in this field, rendering humanitarian assistance in the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

Objectives of the INA “Evolutio” are as follows:

  • to contribute to awareness raising on the UN and another international organizations, their projects and programmes, which address the global and regional challenges;
  • to contribute to awareness raising, education and research on human rights, issues of refugees, displaced persons and migrants, gender issues;
  • to contribute to awareness raising, education and research on international law and international relations;
  • to develop of the international cooperation in scientific research, information and educational spheres;
  • to render refugees, asylum seekers, and other vulnerable persons humanitarian assistance in the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

Aims and objectives are implemented through conducting of seminars, round tables, conferences and scientific researches; lectures and courses; publications; distribution of documents and other materials on international law and international relations, including the UN and other international organizations; carrying out cultural and educational events; information assistance to the persons and organizations interested in the international law and international relations spheres, UN activities etc.

Adult citizens of the Republic of Belarus, foreign citizens, and stateless persons who have Belarus as the place of their permanent residence, who can contribute to awareness raising of the citizens of the Republic of Belarus and others states on education and research on international law and international relations, on the UN and another international organizations including issues on human rights, refugees, displaced persons and migrants, gender issues can be members of the Association.

Journal of International Law and International Relations

The International Non-governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes “Evolutio” is the founder and publisher of the Journal of International Law and International Relations (before July 2005 — Belarusian Journal of International Law and International Relations). Joint Project with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

The project aims:

  • spreading information on legislation and rising awareness on refugees issues;
  • forming positive stereotypes and types of behavior towards refugees in Belarusian society.

Direct addressees: schoolchildren and students, teachers and lecturers, post graduates students and scientific workers, officials and representatives of non-governmental organizations, wide public. The final addressees of the effect of the project are refugees and asylum seekers.

Modeling the United Nations

International Non-governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes “Evolutio” organises “Modeling the United Nations for students in Belarus.

Besides, Association closely cooperates with United Nations Office in the Republic of Belarus in the field of dissemination of information about the UN, its programmes and projects.

Refugee Problem

The “Refugee Problem” section is the first Russian-language Internet resource on this issue. It represents the results of our work in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The section also presents the official documents and publications of the UN and UNHCR, magazines and bulletins on refugee issues, as well as information on refugees in Belarus and on projects, implemented to support the integration of refugees. In addition, in this section you can find materials on statelessness and migration.

Journal

The Journal of International Law and International Relations, founded in 1996, is one of the leading scientific journals of the Republic of Belarus. The publication specializes in issues of foreign policy, international law and international economic relations.

The journal is included in the List of scientific works of the Republic of Belarus for the publication of the results of dissertation research in legal, historical and economic sciences.

Model of the United Nations

Model of the United Nations (MUN) is a combination of a conference and a role-playing game, during which the activities of this international organization are simulated. Each of the MUN participants is a delegate from one of the countries of the world and sits on one of the committees of the UN system that deals with certain issues. Model United Nations in Belarus has existed since 1999. It began at the Faculty of International Relations of BSU.
