Asylum Trends report covering the first half of 2014 has been released. The report summarizes patterns and trends in the number of individual asylum applications submitted in 44 industrialized countries during the first half of 2014. The report covers 38 European and six non-European States that currently provide monthly asylum statistics to UNHCR. Available for download at the UNHCR website here.
On September 15, 2014 the seminar “Promoting the Issues of Refugees and Awareness-Raising in the Belarusian Society” for the students of the Institute of Journalism of BSU took place on the base of the corresponding Institute. The event was organized jointly by the International Non-governmental Association for Scientific Research, Information and Educational Programmes “Evolutio” and the Institute of Journalism of BSU with the support of the UNHCR Representation in the Republic of Belarus.

On 11-12 September 2014, UNHCR Belarus organized the visit of the representatives of the Embassies accredited in Belarus to Vitebsk. The visit was aimed at familiarization with the current situation of asylum-seekers and refugees residing in Belarus as well as the range of assistance the state authorities and non-governmental organizations provide to UNHCR persons of concern. The mission encompassed a meeting with Vitebsk Region state executive authorities and non-governmental organizations, visits to the Temporary Accommodation Center for asylum-seekers and the enterprises providing employment to asylum-seekers and refugees. The representatives of the Embassies of the Federative Republic of Brazil, the French Republic, the Republic of Latvia, Palestine, the Republic of Poland, the USA as well as the European Union Delegation to Belarus took part in the visit.

On July 31, 2014 a workshop on the issues of providing assistance to the persons arriving from Ukraine took place. The meeting was organized by the UNHCR Representation in the Republic of Belarus with the support of the Belarusian Red Cross Society in order to coordinate activities with partner organizations, and primarily, with governmental structures of Belarus. Representatives of the International Organization for Migration, Department on Citizenship and Migration of the MIA of Belarus, of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the Refugee Counseling Service and INA “Evolutio” took part in the event.
For those Ukrainians who arrived to Belarus and seeking asylum, applying for a temporary residence permit or simply looking for a job and assistance in Belarus, Belarusian Red Cross Society on its website provides essential information that can be accessed online. Moreover, you might receive information on the refugee status on the territory of the Republic of Belarus, clarify questions related to temporary employment and accomodation for refugees from Ukraine or provide your assistance to them in the Refugee Counseling Service.
